This Acacia tree blew down in a storm just 4 blocks from my home. The tree crew was nice enough to deliver several chunks of the trunk to my driveway.
Bill Walzer has been turning art pieces for decades and has finally decided to make it his day job.
I started by turning the handrail posts when renovating my Victorian home in Berkeley but quickly moved to bowls which provide me with more creative dimensions.
I only use downed wood from the urban forest - city trees that have fallen or need to be removed for some reason. The finishes are non-toxic .
If you ever lose a favorite tree give me a call so I can make a lovely memory piece out of the trunk.
The grain and shape of a log largely determines the best shape for the resulting piece of turned art. I understand grain and go with its flow. I enjoy deciding if a piece is going to be straight or curvy or angular or all of the above.
The results show I enjoy collaborating with nature.
Send me an email via the Contact Menu to let me know which shapes you like ( ;- ) or do not like ( :- (
